| Water soluble, powder injection moulding (PIM) binder |
| The Ceramics Research Centre has developed a unique binder system that can be used in injection moulding of metals,
as well as ceramics.
|
| |
| Possibilities of the CRC binder System |
| The CRC binder system has a low viscosity so that it can be well injection moulded or extruded. Furthermore, the binder
system has a high level of flexibility in terms of the type of powders, which - with regard to composition, shape and particle size - can be
processed with very high levels of success. Virtually all powders can be processed successfully. The mixing time is short and mising
of the components takes place at relatively low temperatures (80-85°C). with this binder system, high green strength of the green product
is obtained and furthermore a high demensional stability and machineability of the green product. The typical value of the green part strength
lies in a range from 25 to 75 MPa. |
| |
| With the CRC binder system the final products can be manufactured having the following properties: |
- Size tolerance of ± 0.3 – ± 0.1%
- Surface roughness: 0.4-1.6 mm
- Density of 97.5-99.5%
|
| |
| Advantages of the CRC binder system |
- High flexibility in terms in powder composition.
- Low investment costs for putting up an assembly line.
- The binder system is flexible in powder load, powder type, powder grain size and green part strength. It is suitable for
ceramics as well as for metallic powders. The powder load can be adjusted within a relatively large range (45-60% for ceramics,
(50-65% for metals).
- The mixing, debinding, drying and sintering process takes place in a relatively short time.
- The CRC binder system is environmentally friendly.
