Maintenance downtime of a high temperature installation is disastrous for production costs. Often, limited refractory lifetime is the most important reason for conducting a maintenance campaign. In many cases, the necessity for downtimes can be considerably reduced by optimizing the high temperature processes with respect to the optimal operating window of the refractory linings in order to extend their lifetime. In addition, increased installation performance and reduced maintenance can be obtained by selecting the best refractory material for the specific process conditions (i.e., temperature, temperature changes, atmosphere, mechanical load, etc.) or by adjusting the construction of the installation. Our experts are involved with extensive research to help our partners in the petrochemical industry to improve their processes and installation performance.

Furthermore, the Ceramics Research Centre experts on process design can provide support to optimise the current operating procedures and thus improve the energy efficiency of your high temperature processes. This could result in considerable lower process costs, maintenance downtime, and reduction of energy waste. This can be as straightforward as monitoring heat losses in your installation, or as complex as a complete revision of the refractory lining including operating directions.
